Ella Wright

Ella Wright is an award-winning Australian filmmaker with experience across drama, documentary and commercial projects.

Twice nominated by the Australian Directors’ Guild for her directorial work, Ella is also a seasoned producer and production manager who enjoys creating heartfelt, fun, imagination-filled stories.

Ella’s directorial debut, Stage Changers, was officially selected for the Portland Film Festival, CinefestOZ and Revelation Perth International Film Festival. The film received nominations at the ADG Awards, the WA Screen Culture Awards, and the Crystal Pine Award at the International Sound and Film Music Festival. Filmed over eight years, Stage Changers was produced in conjunction with WBMC and is available via iwonder.com and Little Dot Studios.

Ella directed the documentary Tee Ken Ng for ABC Arts, produced by Kirri Media. The film received four nominations at the WA Screen Culture Awards, where Ella won Outstanding Achievement in Directing. It was also recognised at the AIDC and ADG Awards, and selected for Le FIFA 42 Montreal, Revelation Film Festival and St Kilda Film Festival.

Ella co-produced the documentary Candidate Games for ABC with Periscope Pictures, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the WA Screen Awards and the ATOM Awards. Her short film George Jones and the Giant Squid premiered at Palm Springs International ShortFest, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Flickerfest, and won the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival (USA).

Ella is the Australian producer for Rotterdam-based artist Pilar Mata Dupont, working together to create films including Zauberberg and Shuffle for gallery exhibition and public screens. She has also worked on numerous music videos for artists including Abbe May and Tim Minchin.

Her production credits span documentary, drama and animation, including 100 Days to Victory (BBC Scotland, Foxtel, History Channel Canada), Australia’s Health Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley (SBS), The Kimberley Man (NITV), The Circuit (SBS), Dogstar (BBC/Channel 9) and Red Dirt Road Trip (Discovery UK/Foxtel).

Ella works internationally as the Australian producer for artist Pilar Mata Dupont and has extensive production experience across major documentary, drama and animation series for broadcasters including ABC, SBS, BBC, Foxtel and Discovery.
